Synonyms acetic acid isobutyl ester
2-butoxyethanol
GOST no data
CAS 110-19-0

Isobutyl acetate is a clear colorless liquid with a fruit odor. It is miscible with a number organic solvents; almost insoluble in water. Isobutyl acetate can be easily hydrolyzed in presence of acids or alkali solutions.

Production.

Isobutyl acetate is manufactured by direct esterification of acetic acid with isobutyl alcohol at 100-110°C in the presence of H2SO4 in continuous process. Isobutyl acetate is rectified as ternary azeotrope with water and isobutanol.

Uses.

Isobutyl acetate is applied:

  • as a solvent for perchlorovinyl-, polyacryl- and other lacquers;
  • as a solvent for nitro-, ethyl-, and acetyl cellulose, chlorinated rubber, natural and synthetic resins, vegetable oils and fats;
  • as an agent for extraction of natural flavorings;
  • in fruit essences and perfumes;
  • as an intermediate to manufacture pharmaceuticals, synthetic flavorings and other organic compounds;
