oxalic acid dihydrate

Product name oxalic acid dihydrate
GOST no data
CAS 6153-56-6

Oxalic acid dihydrate is a colorless, odorless crystalline solid with a monoclinic lattice. It is boundedly soluble in water (9.5g/100ml at 15°C), solubility rises with the temperature. It is also partly soluble in diethyl ether, ethanol. Almost insoluble in chloroform, petroleum ether, benzene. Oxalic acid is a simplest dicarboxylic acid, t is a relatively strong organic acid, being about 10,000 times stronger than acetic acid. Its salts and esters are called oxalates.

Production.

NaOH + CO --> HCOONa
HCOONa --> NaOOC-COONa + H2
NaOOC-COONa + H2SO4 --> HOOC-COOH + Na2SO4
